N162AE is an Airbus EC135 P2+ operated by Air Methods and is one of four MedCenter Air helicopters serving the critical care transport needs for North and South Carolina. The aircraft is powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW206B2 turboshaft engines making a total of 1500 shaft horsepower for a top speed of 160 mph, a range of 393 miles, and maximum endurance of 3 hours and 36 minutes. The aircraft is IFR capable and configured for night vision goggles for missions at night.
The flight crew consists of a pilot, a flight nurse and a flight respiratory therapist, or two flight nurses with at least three to five years of experience in ICU or emergency room medicine cross-credentialed with EMS certifications. Their advanced medical equipment includes cardiac monitors, ventilators, IV infusion pumps, advanced drug supply, and an intra-aortic balloon pump. MedCenter Air crews are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for call-outs to scene and inter-facility medical transports within a 150 mile radius of the aircraft’s home base in Anson County, North Carolina.
