Operated by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, this Bell 407GXP is tasked with multi-mission roles including law enforcement, search and rescue, medical transport, and fire suppression. Covering 1,604 square miles of mountainous forest, narrow river canyons, and steep coastal cliffs, the helicopter unit is an important resourse for Sonoma County and is often called upon to assist neighboring counties in difficult rescues and recoveries due to their expertise in long line operations.

The crew is comprised of a Pilot, Tactical Flight Officer, and Paramedic who are available 24/7. Powered by a Rolls Royce 250-C47B/8 turbine engine producing 862 shp, the 407 has a top speed of 161 mph, a range of 387 miles, and a loiter time of 4 hours. The aircraft is equipped with an L3 Wescam MX-10 Multi-Sensor-Multi-Spectral imaging system, a Luminator HSL 1600 search light, and a Boost Human External Cargo Systems dual-hook. A Garmin G1000H flight deck displays flight and traffic information (TIS), terrain awareness warning (TAWS), moving map, and synthetic vision technology (SVT). Anvis 9 night vision goggles (NVG) are standard and carried onboard for operations at night.
