Copter 308 is a Bell UH-1H and one of five helicoters operated by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff/Fire Air Support Unit (ASU). The unit is comprised of the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office and the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, and is tasked with providing aerial law enforcement support, fire suppression, search and rescue, and medical rescue services.

The UH-1’s mission profile includes search and rescue operations, tactical command and control of fire operations, hoist rescue and medical treatment of injured persons, insertion and withdrawal of specialized teams within high-risk or remote areas, and fire suppression using either fixed water tanks or removable long-line buckets.

In addition to promoting public safety, ASU also supports other local, state and federal public safety agencies within and beyond the boundaries of Santa Barbara County.
